Goa Dairy consumers can now look forward to fortified milk, with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) permitting Goa Dairy to fortify its milk with vitamins A and D.
In doing so, Goa Dairy claims it will be the first dairy in the State to introduce vitamins A and D in milk.
Goa Dairy Managing Director Dr Navaso Sawant confirmed this development and said efforts were being made to launch the milk soon.
“We have got permission from National Dairy Development Board today to fortify the milk with vitamins A and D. We are in the process to introduce the milk at the earliest,” Dr Sawant said.
Dr Sawant said the decision was taken by Goa Dairy to address vitamin deficiencies among consumers.
“A survey by National Dairy Development Board had suggested that vitamin A and D deficiencies are widely prevalent in the State and hence the fortification was
needed,” explained Dr Sawant.
“Goa Dairy will be first dairy in Goa to introduce vitamins A and D in milk,” he added.
Sources informed that the fortification is being carried out per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) developed by National Dairy Development Board and FSSAI.
Farmers to get Rs 7 more for buffalo milk: Goa Dairy
PONDA: Stepping up its competition with main rival Sumul, the Goa Dairy has decided to offer dairy farmers Rs 7 more per litre of buffalo milk.
The buffalo milk rate will, however, remain unchanged for consumers.
The Goa Dairy decided to offer the farmers Rs 40 instead of earlier Rs 33 for buffalo milk of 6.0 fat and 9.0 SNF.
Thousands of famers supplying milk to around 178 rural dairy co-operative societies of Goa Dairy will get benefit of this new rate decided by the board.
Speaking to The Goan, Goa Dairy Chairman Rajesh Phal Desai said they had to increase local procurement of buffalo milk, to compete with Sumul.
“At present, we get only 3,500 litres of buffalo milk from State. We want to increase it and hence, we have offered increased milk procurement rates to the farmers,” Phal Desai said.
Sources informed that some farmers affiliated to Goa Dairy had also begun supplying milk to Sumul and hence, Goa Dairy would get less buffalo milk in the State.
Goa Dairy Managing Director Dr Navaso Sawant has also informed that the ‘Kadbabutii’ fodder will be made available to farmers from Monday.
“There is a rumour that this fodder is
not available in Karnataka, but we will
make it available from Monday,” said Dr Sawant.
