The State government has notified its readiness to implement the Central Government’s measures against several organizations in Jammu and Kashmir, which have been declared “unlawful associations” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Acting on the Centre's orders, the Goa government notified that it would exercise all powers necessary to enforce the ban on these organizations. The Central government had communicated to all State governments and Union Territory administrations, granting them authority to act against these groups. The directive also allows State and UT administrations to delegate powers to subordinate officers to carry out necessary actions to curb the activities of these banned associations.
The organizations banned include multiple factions of the JKPL”led by Muktar Ahmed Waza, Bashir Ahmad Tota, Ghulam Mohammad Khan alias Sopori and Aziz Sheikh”as well as the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Jammu and Kashmir People Freedom League, Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Bhat and Sumji factions), Jammu Kashmir National Front, and Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir.
