Goa continues to experience relentless heat, with temperatures reaching 35.2 degrees Celsius on Friday and a heat index (feel-like temperature) surpassing 40 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Goa division has forecast no relief for at least the next seven days, projecting a heat index ranging between 40 to 50 degrees Celsius.

According to an IMD official, Friday saw temperatures at 35.2 degrees Celsius with a slight drop to 35 degrees Celsius expected on Saturday. This will gradually drop to 34 degrees Celsius thereafter. However, the overall conditions will remain hotter than usual, persisting as dry and humid weather for the next week.

While the ongoing high temperatures is no less than a heat wave feel, the official pointed out that dehydration is a concern under these conditions. As per the latest bulletin, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 34 to 36 degrees Celsius for the next seven days.

Speaking to The Goan, IMD officer Nahush Kulkarni stated that though temperature is expected between 34-36 for coming days, the feel like temperature is likely to be in the range of 40-50 degree. “People are advised to take precautions especially during afternoon hours,” he advised.

Further, night temperature is recorded on the higher side, which is creating discomfort during night hours. This situation may extend for the next few days.

Moreover, despite some areas in Maharashtra and Karnataka experiencing rainfall, the IMD has dismissed any hope of relief for Goa. Although isolated rainfall occurred along the Chorla Ghat and the interior regions on Thursday, Goa remains unaffected and is unlikely to witness rainfall in the coming days.

Heat Index: It is a combination of air temperature and relative humidity. It is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.
