Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes has appealed to showcase rich and original tradition and culture, which Goans are well-known for, to the world tourists rather than just engaging in shack business.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the celebration of World Tourism Day organized by Palolem United Trust (PUT) at Canacona on Wednesday.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the celebration of World Tourism Day organized by Palolem United Trust (PUT) at Canacona on Wednesday.
"Shack business is individual gratification, but present our State's rich and well-known culture of hospitality to the world tourists. Receive tourists with the
same care and love, treat them with respect and give them dignity which we as Goans are known for in the world," Fernandes said.
"In the 1980s when world leaders came for the first-ever international event -- CHOGM -- in Goa, they complimented Goa as most beautiful and described people as caring and loving. Let's keep that tag flying high on world map."
Earlier, PUT president Simon Rebello handed over a memorandum to Fernandes for submitting it to the government. The memorandum listed various grievances including demand for a fair tourism policy, electricity voltage issues, parking, bypass and widening of roads to beaches at Agonda, Palolem and other municipal coastal belt, single window licensing, police outpost at Palolem, stoppage of dog/stray cattle menace, sewerage line, removal of shops from pavments, beautification of Palolem and Agonda beaches.
Canacona PI Rajendra Prabhudessai asked tourism stakeholders to keep police abreast of unusual behaviour of people, especially of the youth with foreign nationals and also help police to provide security and instill confidence of tourists visiting Canacona.
Prabhudessai also requested the people to create awareness in conducting tourism trade. "Our DGP was in Canacona and one night he visited Palolem, where he accosted a tourist couple and he himself approached the guesthouse where they were staying. The guest house owner feigned ignorance of the need to fill the mandatory C-Form."
Others who spoke on the occasion were Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Prathana Naik Gaunkar, Deputy Chairperson Samita Dhuri, councilor Divakar Pagui, Agonda Sarpanch Barsat Naikgaunkar, All Goa Private Property Shacks Owners Association president Dharmesh Saglani, PUT president Simon Rebello and former chairperson Rajendra Dessai. Blanca compered the programme, while Relisha proposed the vote of thanks.
