Goa Liberation Day to be marked in Jharkhand

PANAJI

Goa Liberation Day will be celebrated on December 19 in Jharkhand with a seminar, screening of a documentary on the Goa Revolution, and the release of three books. The programme is being jointly organised by the Delhi-based Dr Rammanohar Lohia Research Foundation and Tarapada Shadangi DAV School at Behragoda in East Singhbhum district.

The function will be presided over by former Jharkhand Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Shadangi. Educationist, columnist and National Translation Award winner from Goa, Dr Narayan Desai, will be the chief guest and main speaker at the seminar. Avyakta, Convenor of Satwik Kranti from Himachal Pradesh, will attend as the guest of honour. Dr Lohia Foundation President Abhishek Ranjan Singh and school principal Mukesh Kumar will also take part in the programme.

The Dr Lohia Research Foundation has had a long association with Goa since the beginning of this decade. Its second National Conclave was held in Margao in 2021.

The annual conclave, which began in Kolkata in 2019, has since been organised in Guwahati, Ranchi, Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar, with Goan delegates attending each year.

In 2025, Goan freedom fighter Laxmidas Borkar was honoured posthumously with the Dr Lohia Samman.

As part of the celebration, a documentary produced by the Foundation on Dr Lohia’s historic visit to Goa and the Goa Revolution will be screened. Three Odia translations of Dr Lohia’s works, translated by Dr Beena Shadangi, will also be released.

Foundation secretary Rajkumar Rungta said the objective of the celebration is to introduce national history in a wider perspective to local students and youth.
