MARGAO
Goa Mahila Congress chief Pratima Coutinho on Thursday condemned the reported statement made by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smruti Irani painting Congress women in bad light.
Addressing the media at the South Goa District Congress office here on Thursday in the presence of district Mahila chief Savitri Kavlekar, Pratima demanded that the Union Minister and BJP leader apologise for the alleged insinuations made against women members of the Congress party.
"The Union Information Minister not only targeted the women, who are members of the Congress party, but she has insulted the women of India by making such statements. This only goes to show the mentality of the BJP leaders towards women in the country," Pratima said.
She pointed out that women of India are capable to play their own role in politics as well manage their households by taking care of their families. "The statement made by Irani only goes to show that the BJP wants to ensure that women do not want to come out of their houses and join politics, but want to confine to the four corners of the house," Pratima said, while demanding the resignation of the Union Information Minister.
"Congress mahilas are known for their work for the society. Irani's statement is a clear attempt to demoralise the mahilas and the youth," Pratima added.
