Goa Medical College condition under scanner of Mahila Congress

PANAJI: The National General Secretary and all India communications in-charge of the Mahila Congress Apsara Reddy also spoke on crimes against women in Goa, and the horrible condition of the women’s ward in the Goa Medical College and Hospital.

“I went to the government hospital this morning. Men were walking in and using the toilet in the women’s ward. TB/fever patients were on the floor,” she narrated.

She further spoke about the hardships of women waiting for hours in queues in the hospital. “Around 40 women were standing in line to meet a doctor from 8 am and they were still there at 1 pm. They were standing. Is that what Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is?” she questioned.

She also spoke out about how gambling was destroying families. “About the casinos in Goa, I want to say encouraging gambling is the biggest crime. It ruins livelihoods and families. BJP had promised that gambling income would be given to destitute women. But they’re only rendering more women destitute,” said Reddy.

Slamming the government on the mining ban, she said, “To kill the lifeline of the Goan economy (which is mining) is bad administration and bad policy making. You cannot kill the entire industry because of some illegal operations. You should have administrative capacity to curb illegal mining.”

Talking about governance in Goa, she said, “The people of Goa deserve a strong functional CM. Goa wants to tell Parrikar: get well, but please go home.”
