Making a strong case for Lok Sabha ticket to Mahila Congress chief Pratima Coutnho, the National General Secretary of the women’s wing Apsara Reddy urged the party to give equal representation to women.
Addressing the media in Goa for the first time, Reddy said, “With elections coming up, I urge every state Congress president to accommodate as many women as possible in seat allocation. Give women as much representation as men.”
“Pratima Coutinho has done exemplary work in the State. I think she has raised the profile of the Congress party and the Mahila unit with her hard work,” said Reddy. Reddy said though she supported Pratima and would campaign for her if she became the Congress candidate, the decision lay with the Congress high command. “It is my job to encourage the hard work of women and so I am supporting Pratima’s candidacy. But it depends upon the high command. If she gets the seat, I will come campaign for her,” said Reddy. When asked about how important the two seats in Goa were for the party, Reddy affirmed “every seat is very important.”
