The health minister stated that Goa is the only State which is providing free treatment for Covid, including medicines.
He was speaking at a function organised to felicitate doctors, nurses and frontline workers of Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Mandur. The felicitation was done as RHTC achieved a landmark figure of having vaccinated 8,000 beneficiaries till date.
“We need to appreciate the work of the doctors and entire staff for having worked tirelessly to achieve the target. Today, under the guidance of PM Modi, we are trying to achieve 100 per cent vaccination for all and everybody should take advantage of the programme,” he said.
“With vaccination, the impact of Covid would be less. If we vaccinate all, we can handle the situation better in any wave.”
“Goa is the only State in India which is providing Covid treatment free, including medicines, free of cost. Medicines like Remdesivir are provided free to Goans and the government is trying its best to provide better facilities,” the health minister added.
Speaking on the occasion, St Andre MLA Francis Silveira lauded the efforts of the RHTC doctors and staff for achieving 8,000 vaccinations in such a short time.
“Our government is doing a good work during the pandemic but it is also the duty of all to take care of oneself,” he added.
GMC Dean Shivanand Bandekar congratulated the department of Preventive and Social Medicine of GMC for achieving 8,000 vaccinations, and thanked the health minister for selecting Mandur RHTC for the felicitation programme.
Bandekar further said the RHTC help would be required for the third wave, for which a separate meeting would be organised.

Demand to upgrade Mandur RHTC to handle Covid cases
OLD GOA: Azossim-Mandur Sarpanch Ajit Bacal submitted a memorandum to the health minister requesting that the Mandur RHTC be upgraded, so that Covid patients could be treated at the centre itself.
Bacal made the demand while speaking at the function organised to felicitate doctors, nurses and frontline workers of RHTC at Mandur, on Tuesday.
“The RHTC needs to be upgraded as third wave is upon us and it could be severe. During the second wave, I have personally witnessed how our people were finding it difficult to get beds in hospitals,” Bacal said.
“If the RHTC is upgraded, people from the village can get Covid treatment here itself and not rush to GMC,” he added and requested the health minister to do the needful.
Replying to the demand, the health minister said in the next week, he would convene a meeting of GMC doctors to discuss the issue, where local MLA Francis Silveira along with his representatives could participate.
“In the next one and a half month, we will try to fulfil all the demands so that mild and moderate could be treated in RHTC itself,” he stated, while adding that a PAC plant would also be set up in the RHTC. “A PAC plant is also planned at TB hospital which will be inaugurated shortly,” the health minister added.
