Addressing the gathering, DGP Kumar said Goa Police has significantly intensified its crackdown on narcotics over the past five years.
"Over the past five years, we have registered more than 900 drug cases, arrested over 1,000 accused and seized more than 1,000 kg of narcotic substances," he said.
He added that the proposed three-year roadmap will focus on stronger enforcement, preventive measures, public awareness and community participation to achieve the goal of a drug-free Goa.
The marathon was organised to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse while promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The event saw enthusiastic participation from citizens, students, youth, police personnel and representatives of various organisations across Goa.
Chief Secretary V Candavelou, who also addressed the participants, said society is currently grappling with two major challenges: digital addiction and drug addiction.
"Society today faces two major challenges: digital addiction and drug addiction. Effectively tackling the drug menace requires coordinated efforts from the Government, law enforcement agencies and the community," he said.
He added that awareness initiatives such as the marathon play an important role in educating the public and strengthening the collective fight against substance abuse.
In the marathon, Omkar Patil emerged winner in the men's category, while Swizel D'Souza secured first place in the women's category. Both winners received a cash prize of Rs 5,000, along with a medal, memento and certificate.
