Addressing the Goa Kranti Din function at Azad Maidan in Panaji, the Governor paid tribute to the freedom fighters who participated in Goa’s liberation movement and said the State had made remarkable progress over the years. “Goa has achieved remarkable progress after Liberation. It has successfully preserved its unique identity while embracing modern development. The greatest tribute we can give to our freedom fighters is to build a society that reflects their dreams and aspirations,” the Governor said.
He also emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable development, stating that preserving Goa’s ecology is essential for future generations.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who was present at the event, distributed government job appointment letters to 22 children of freedom fighters. “The Goa government has provided appointment letters to 22 children of freedom fighters on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day. The remaining 40 beneficiaries will be given appointments next year on the same occasion,” CM Sawant said.
CM Sawant also announced that the names and contributions of 33 freedom fighters who fought against Portuguese rule and were martyred at Patradevi would be honoured at the Patradevi memorial.
President of the Goa, Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association, Rohidas Dessai, remembered the sacrifices made by freedom fighters for Goa’s liberation and praised the government’s initiative to provide employment opportunities to their children. Dessai was honoured with a certificate of appreciation and a cheque of Rs 10 lakh during the function.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, North Goa MP Shripad Naik, Chief Secretary Dr. V. Candavelou, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and several other dignitaries attended the event.
