Goa bagged first place in the Food Safety Index (FSI) issued by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) among small states in the country.

This is the third consecutive year that Goa has bagged the first place in the FSI.

The states are assessed on five parameters such as human resource and institutional data, enforcement and compliance, testing infrastructure, consumer empowerment, training and awareness for the rankings and awards.

FDA Director Jyoti Sardesai received the award on behalf of Goa from Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Monday.

Sardesai later stated that the award to Goa was the result of consistent and dedicated efforts by the entire FDA.

The health minister later took to twitter to congratulate the FDA for the award.

"Hearty congratulation to the Department of Food and Drugs Administration - Goa for securing first place in the Food Safety Index. My best wishes to FDA Director Jyoti Sardesai, for her relentless efforts and dynamic leadership that has resulted in achieving this accolade,” he stated.
