The India Innovation Index released by the Niti Ayog has ranked Goa with a score of 22.49 in third place among small States and UTs behind Delhi (42.98) and Chandigarh with a score of 27.97.
According to the bulky 258-page report, the ranking of States has been done by first segregating them into large States, Union Territories and Small States and the North-Eastern States.
The index is calculated on the basis of a ratio between ‘enablers’ and ‘performers’ of innovation in various fields detected in related data maintained by the States.
Goa topped the list of UTs and Small States in ‘Enablers’ of innovations scoring a high score of 34.01 ahead of Chandigarh (32.79) and Delhi (32.13).
On ‘performers’ of innovation, however, Goa slumped to the fifth position among the eight Union Territories and Small States. It scored a poor 10.98 far behind Delhi which scored 53.84 and Chandigarh (23.14) which were placed at first and second position.
However, the report ranked Goa at the top on ‘Knowledge Workers’ criteria ahead of Delhi and Chandigarh. Goa also topped the UTs ahead of Delhi and Lakshwadeep for ‘Business Environment’.
