Goa ready to get, set and go for biggest sports event: CM

Claims only deep cleaning of venues remaining

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the ongoing preparation work for the biggest sporting event in the country was 99 percent complete and the State was ready to host the 37th National Games.

“Goa is ready to get, set and go. Almost 99 percent work is complete at all the venues. Only the deep cleaning is left which will be completed in the next few days. Goans are ready to host all the teams of other States which will participate in the National Games,” Sawant said.

The Chief Minister was addressing the media during his inspection at Peddem, one of the various venues hosting the National Games in the State.

Fisheries Minister and Tivim MLA Nilkant Halarnkar, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, Deputy Collector Yasheswini B (IAS), SP North Nidhin Valsan (IAS), Mapusa SDPO Jivba Dalvi and officials of Sports Authority of Goa were present during the inspection.

Speaking further, Sawant said this time Goa has got to hold the National Games which is a once in a lifetime event.

He called upon the people of the State to support the event wholeheartedly. He also urged maximum people to witness the inaugural ceremony.

“Be positive of the National Games. We are known for tourism. It’s time to highlight sports. Earlier, the focus was on sun, sand and sea. But now another ‘s’ is added, that is spirituality and also sports,” he said.

The CM informed that besides PM Narendra Modi, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and sports ministers of other States will also be attending the event.
