PANAJI: The Union Government on Saturday released an additional instalment of Rs 1,09,019 crore as tax devolution to State Governments, ahead of the regular monthly devolution scheduled for August 10, to strengthen State finances and enable faster capital and developmental expenditure.
The advance release is intended to provide States with greater financial flexibility for infrastructure projects, welfare programmes and other priority development works.
As per the State-wise allocation, Goa has received an advance instalment of Rs 398 crore under the additional devolution.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant welcomed the decision and thanked the Union Government for the allocation.
"I thank the Union Government, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, for releasing Rs 1,09,019 crore as tax devolution to the States, including an advance instalment of Rs 398 crore for Goa to accelerate capital and developmental expenditure."
Sawant said the additional funds would help the State expedite infrastructure projects, strengthen public service delivery and support inclusive growth. He added that the advance release reflects the Centre's commitment to cooperative federalism by empowering States with timely financial resources to meet development priorities and contribute to the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
According to the State-wise distribution released by the Centre, Uttar Pradesh received the highest allocation of Rs 19,208 crore, followed by Bihar with Rs 10,845 crore, Madhya Pradesh with Rs 8,010 crore and West Bengal with Rs 7,866 crore.
