PANAJI: Goa Tourism has won two prestigious awards at National Tourism Awards, which were held in New Delhi. According to a Department of Tourism press note, Goa Tourism won the award for ‘Most Innovative Use of Information Technology - Social Media/Mobile App'. Apart from that, Goa Tourism also bagged third prize for ‘Best state/UT - Comprehensive Development of Tourism (Rest of India)'.
President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, presented both the awards to Nilesh Cabral (chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation - GTDC) and Nikhil Desai (managing director of GTDC).
The award ‘Most Innovative Use of Information Technology- Social Media/Mobile App' was for a campaign run for the tourists and by the tourists called ‘Tourism by Tourists', which was aimed at building the longest running digital testimonial campaign for a travel brand.
The other award called ‘Best State/UT Comprehensive Development of Tourism (Rest of India)' recognizes Goa as a dream tourist destination for all tourists visiting the State. It highlights Goa as a beach tourism destination along with other tourism facets namely bird watching, waterfalls, religious tourism, eco-tourism etc.
Tourism Minister, Manohar ‘Babu' Ajgaonkar said he was am extremely happy and congratulated the Department of Tourism and GTDC for their outstanding performance, which has brought name and fame to Goa Tourism.
Cabral said that during the last five years, under his chairmanship, GTDC has worked in the right direction and has given a new face to Goa Tourism. "I take this opportunity to congratulate the entire team at GTDC and Department of Tourism for working wholeheartedly in this endeavor," he stated.
