To mark International Youth Day 2024, the Goa State AIDS Control Society (GSACS), in collaboration with Shri Bhumika Nursing College and Shri Bhumika Higher Secondary School, Poriem-Sattari, initiated an Intensified Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign. The event was held at Shri Bhumika Nursing College & Shri Bhumika Higher Secondary School, Poriem.

Dr. Deviya Rane, MLA of Poriem and Chairperson of Goa Forest Development Corporation, graced the state-level function. She inaugurated the 171st Red Ribbon Club (RRC) and unveiled the new GSACS mascot. This year’s International Youth Day theme, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development Goals,” highlights the vital role of youth in digital advocacy and sustainable development.

In her speech, Dr. Rane emphasized the importance of youth involvement in raising awareness about HIV/AIDS.

“Youth are the architects of tomorrow’s world, and it is in their hands to shape the future by addressing critical issues like HIV/AIDS,” she stated. She stressed the need for open communication to educate the community on HIV/AIDS and reduce stigma. “HIV-positive individuals require support from both their families and society,” she added.

Dr. Shaheen Saiyed, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Health Services, spoke on the necessity of acceptance and non-discrimination towards HIV-positive individuals. She urged students to use the Red Ribbon Club to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and foster a positive societal response.

The event featured a dynamic Flash Mob by students from Vidya Prabodhini College, Porvorim.

Prizes were distributed for various competitions.

This nationwide IEC campaign, running from August 12 to October 31, 2024, aims to bolster HIV/AIDS awareness efforts.
