It has been eight months since the committee of the Goa State Women’s Commission (GSWC) was dismissed, yet, no new committee has been appointed to take care of the issues, complaints and woes of women in the State.
As a result, hundreds of women from across the State pay multiple visits to the Junta House office of GSWC in Panaji but no heed is paid to listen to their issues. Bringing this to the notice of the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi, Adv Shailesh Kulkarni has sent a letter demanding the appointment of the new committee on an urgent basis.
The last programme organised on behalf of the GSWC was organised on March 4 earlier this year, and immediately after that the committee was dismissed. When asked, the Director of Women and Child Welfare Deepali Naik keeps replying that the file regarding the matter has been sent forward, claimed Adv Kulkarni, adding that no step has been taken to appoint a new committee, in the absence of which the women in the State are made to suffer.
Adv Kulkarni mentioned that he has received matters of complaints from around 20 women but he is unable to offer any support to them. Earlier, when the Commission was active, around 20 women came with their issues on a daily basis, and monthly 500-700 complaints were handled by the GSWC. After the committee was dismissed, hundreds of women have been sent back without offering them any support system, claimed the advocate.
