PANAJI: The Goa University has suspended an associate professor of the mathematics department on charges of sexual misconduct after a preliminary inquiry.
While details of the original incident are sketchy, sources in the Goa University have revealed that the professor concerned passed lewd comments against a student who promptly took up the matter with the University authorities.
“Around a month back, the post graduate student complained of the behaviour of the professor leading to the inquiry. The professor concerned as well as the student who complained, were called in to explain the situation,” sources in the Goa University revealed.
There were several other complaints too against the associate professor.
“The students council had taken up the matter with the Vice Chancellor. On account of this, his lectures at the university were even cancelled,” the source revealed.
The complaints, among others included smoking in his cabin as well as being rude to students.
