A trip after attending a wedding at Khanapur ended in tragedy when a woman residing in Goa died on the spot while her husband was seriously injured in a road mishap on the narrow Khanapur-Anmod Road via Hemadaga on Tuesday evening.
According to sources, the couple from Goa was travelling back from Khanapur to Old Goa after attending a wedding at Khanapur. The accident took place near a treacherous turn near Pali village when the car driver tried to avoid a collision with an oncoming truck and car rammed into a roadside tree.
Jagruti Dattaprasad Haridas died on the spot while the driver Dattaprasad Haridas was seriously injured and was shifted to Goa Medical College hospital in Bambolim.
The deceased Jagruti hailed from Asu village near Khanapur and was married to Dattaprasad from Akheri village near Sawantwadi three years ago. Both were residing at Old Goa. A case is registered at Khanapur police station.
Villagers in the vicinity have raised concern about rising accidents on the short route and have demanded a ban of the movement of heavy vehicles on the road. About four days ago, a youth had died on the spot after being hit by a heavy vehicle.
