Expressing concern that a playground meant for over 1,000 students of two schools at Vasco has been misused for parking and anti-social activities, the Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) said such misuse amounted to violation of rules and has petitioned the Mormugao deputy collector for urgent intervention in the matter.
Taking note of The Goan report “Playground for two Vasco schools misused for parking, anti-social activities; action from authorities sought” on Monday, GOCAN Co-ordinator Roland Martins immediately dashed off a letter to the Mormugao deputy collector, stating it was “deeply concerned about the issues raised” in the report.
“The news report which clearly highlights the issues of parking and anti-social activities affecting the Government High School, New Vaddem and the Vadem Nagar English High School, need to be addressed urgently before the situation gets out of hand.”
“The activities as highlighted in the news report also amount to a violation of the Goa Children's Act 2003 and Rules 2004 as these activities are being carried out near the schools thereby being a threat to the safety of the students,” said Martins.
He has sought the dy collector’s urgent intervention by convening a meeting of allied agencies like Mormugao Municipal Council, ADEI Mormugao, Traffic Cell Vasco, Directorate of Transport (ADT Mormugao), to identify lapses, if any, and to put in place a permanent solution before the resumption of regular academic activities in January 2021.
“We are confident that you will take note of the news report and our suggestion and do the needful in the interests of the safety of students and teachers of these two schools in Vasco,” said Martins
Copies of the GOACAN letter have been sent to various authorities concerned with education and law enforcement.
