'Reflections' voices outlook of our Society: Dr D’Lima

“A new book ‘Reflections’ ( A collection of Articles) authored by Irene Cardozo highlights varied moods of the modern society through her articles and thus reveals the attitude of today’s society”, said Dr Edward D’Lima, retired professor and Head of Department of English of DM’s College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Assagao. He was speaking as the Chief Guest after releasing the book “Reflections” on Dec 16 at the Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy, Panjim. “Reflections” (A collection of Articles) is published by Omor Prokaxon, Candolim.

Speaking further he said that Irene is first and foremost a teacher. After completing her mission in life of teaching youngsters, she has now begun teaching society at large through her writings. Her aim is to transform, mould and encourage young and old towards success and achievement and avoid pitfalls on the way.

Dr Glenis Mendonca, Ast. Professor of English Department of Carmel College for Women, Nuvem speaking on the book said that the author has dealt on different aspects of our society through her articles and has compiled them in the book systematically so that the reader can easily pick out and read the topics of his/her choice. The segment “Personal” is emotionally  described in which she highlights the role of her parents “ her late mother and her father who will complete 99 years of age very shortly.

The book includes 80 articles by Irene Cardozo and through these articles she has dealt with important issues such as women empowerment, education, politics, culture, environment etc and has taken pains to make the articles attractive to the readers with fluent and simple English, said Dr Mendonca in conclusion.

Irene Cardozo, the author, in her address, disclosed that after her retirement as Headmistress of a Diocesan High School in 2011, she started penning down her experiences in the form of articles many of which were published on the local dailies. It took almost 8 years for her to compile the articles in a book form.

Earlier Joy Fernandes welcomed the dignitaries and the invitees. Tomazinho Cardozo, Chairman of Omor Prokaxon, proposed a vote of thanks. Willy Goes compered the function.
