A woman from Goa died while three others were seriously injured when a car rammed into a roadside tree near Kankumbi-Belagavi on Wednesday evening.
According to Khanapur police, the incident took place at about 5 pm as five persons, including a small girl, was travelling from Parwad village near Khanapur to Goa after attending a village jatra.
The driver lost control of the car and the vehicle rammed into a roadside tree, killing Gulabi Gawas (50) on the spot.
The driver, Mahadev Gavas (46), Vishwadhara Gawade (46) and Mahadevi Gawas (46) were shifted to KLES Hospital in Belagavi, where their condition was stated to be serious.
The small girl, however, escaped with minor injuries and was taken back to Parwad village after first aid.
Former MLA Arvind Patil sent an ambulance to the accident spot and also went to the accident spot to take stock of the incident, onlookers said.
The body of the deceased was handed over to the family after a post mortem, while a case has been registered at the Khanapur police station.
