HC adjourns case on 10 Cong MLAs' disqualification

PANAJI

The Bombay High Court at Goa has adjourned to February 1 the petition filed by state Congress President Girish Chodankar challenging the speaker’s decision not to disqualify the 10 Congress MLAs who ‘defected’ to the BJP back in 2019.

The High Court agreed to hear the petition along with the petition filed by the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party that has also challenged the failure to disqualify two of its legislators who shifted to the BJP.

The Goa Forward Party too has filed an intervention application in the petition.

The petition, which was filed no sooner the Speaker gave his ruling in April this year, was initially placed before a bench of the Bombay High Court in Mumbai after one of the judges of the Goa bench recused.

However, since the Goa bench has been reconstituted the matter has now been heard for the first time.
