Filipe Neri defers move to resign as MLA

MARGAO
Salcete lone Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues deferred his decision to resign as an MLA and from the primary membership of the BJP, saying he needs to consult his people, some of whom are still in isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Admitting that defection is being made a narrative by the opposition, Filipe Neri said the task before him and his supporters is to explain to the people how his defection has caused damage or brought benefits to the constituents.

Speaking to the media after postponing his decision to quit the BJP as well as from the membership of the Assembly, Filipe Neri, however, said he would take a call before the Election Commission’s notification on elections is issued on February 21.

Saying the people are the masters in a democracy, Filipe Neri said he would go by the decision of his supporters and well-wishers before taking the decision how to go about contesting the ensuing polls. “I will take an appropriate decision which would benefit the people of my constituency and Goa in general,” he said.

Saying that many political parties have entered the State this time round, and who have been approaching his workers and supporters, Filipe Neri said he needs to take the final decision after consultation with my workers. “The nomination process has not started yet. There is still time left for the filing of nomination papers. It is better to take time and take an appropriate decision,” he said.

Admitting that defection has been a narrative in the coming polls, Filipe Neri, who had quit the Congress in 2019 along with nine other MLAs to join the BJP, stressed on the need to define defectors or defections.
