PANAJI: A senior citizen from Goa died due to a heart attack at Mahakumbh, Prayagraj, where had visited along with other fellow colleagues for the holy dip.
Rama Pednekar, a 60-year-old resident of Curchorem, in South Goa, was declared dead by the doctors while on the way to the hospital.
State Government sources confirmed that Pednekar died while being taken to the hospital.
Pednekar had travelled to Prayagraj on a special train organized by the Goa govt. Family members have reached Prayagraj to complete the necessary formalities.
The Goa govt had arranged three special trains, of which two left for Prayagraj on February 6 and 13 and another is slated for February 21- to facilitate travel for devotees attending the Mahakumbh.
Each train accommodates around 1,000 passengers and offers free travel and food.
Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldesai had previously stated that the scheme was open to applicants aged 18 to 60 years with no medical issues.
