Overseas Job scam: Deported Goans from USA file complaint against recruitment agent

PANAJI: Vasco Police have registered an FIR against an agent following a complaint by two Goans, who were deported from the USA last week.

The agent, Staney George of Captain George Consultancy, is accused of cheating the victims to the tune of Rs 18.5 lakh by promising them jobs in the US. However, the complainants alleged that they were illegally sent via a Mexico, where they were caught and deported back to India.

The duo, both from South Goa, were part of a group of 119, who were deported for illegal immigration.

They landed at Dabolim Airport on Sunday afternoon after flying from Amritsar, where they went through standard checks and documentation procedures.

Goa NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar has urged Goans seeking jobs abroad to carefully verify details with agents before going ahead with the payments and other procedures. He said that the citizens, in doubt, should approach the Commission for help.
