MARGAO
Late Danielle McLaughlin’s family appeared relieved and satisfied that justice has been done in the case.
Lawyer representing Danielle’s mother, Adv Vikram Verma further said that justice has been done after a long trial, saying Goa would be safe for women, children and senior citizens.
Briefing the media after the Court pronounced the sentence, Adv Verma complimented the team of prosecutors as well as the Police team for piecing together the circumstantial evidence and convinced the Court beyond reasonable doubt about the involvement of the accused in Danielle’s rape and murder.
“The team needs recognition, including the Director of Prosecution Barne, besides the public prosecutors, V G Costa, Gaonkar, Sanjay Samant and others who handled most of the evidence. DySP Rajendra Prabhudesai and his team also deserve recognition, for getting the witnesses who were not in Goa for deposition in the case,” he said.
“Justice has been done after a long. Goa would be safe for women, children, and senior citizens,” he said. He added: “Danielle’s family is satisfied and relieved that justice has been done. And, the Court has sentenced the convict in accordance with the crime that has been committed against the woman.”
Meanwhile, Investigating officer, PI Filomena Costa told the media that the Danielle McLaughlin rape and murder case was a challenge for the police, but the police team along with the forensic team conducted the investigations in a scientific manner. “For the police, every case is a challenge. We have to work with dedication to get a conviction,” he said.
He added: “Every crime is a challenge, more so when it involves rape and murder of a woman and a foreign national. When we received the information, the first thing we did was to guard the spot and called the forensic team. If you go with discipline and dedication, any case will end in a conviction.”
