Goans want opposition unity: Vijai

GFP chief welcomes Cong opening its doors to all parties

MARGAO

Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai has said the time has come for all like-minded political parties to pay heed to the sentiments of the people of Goa and unite to defeat the BJP.

He welcomed statements made by Congress leaders at the Goy Rakhonn Yatra held at Fatorda on Wednesday that the party doors are open for all political parties to unite to dislodge the BJP government in 2027. “The rally held by the Congress is part of the party programme. What they talk about is for them to decide. One thing is clear: the people of Goa want an alliance. As the principal opposition party, if the Congress is open to a grand alliance, this is a good thing to happen in Goa’s politics,” he said.

He added: “The people of Goa want all opposition parties to come together. It is now the responsibility of all parties to pay heed to the call and sentiments of the people of Goa.”

Saying he did not want to comment on statements made by Aam Aadmi Party leaders on the alliance, Sardesai said, “I have decided against making any statements during Pitru Paksha. I only hope and pray that political parties will have the wisdom during Navratri and Dussehra on the need to unite to defeat the BJP.”

He added: “In politics, when we make mistakes, we should have the courage to accept them. People are ready to forgive if you accept the mistake. There may be occasions when you take certain decisions based on a wrong assessment or when you are overambitious. But it is our responsibility that we accept the mistake and accept the public sentiment.”
