Godinho also informed that the post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch at Bogmalo panchayat would shared by two panchas each for an equal duration.
With barely a day left for elections to sarpanchas of 175 panchayats in the State, rumours were spread of a split within the ruling group in the 11-member panchayat, with both former deputy sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav and Sebastao Pereira both staking claim to the sarpanch’s post. There were reports that both Yadav and Pereira had their own groups of panchas backing them to the top post.
When contacted, Godinho ruled out any rift between Yadav and Pereira over the post of sarpanch.
“Someone is spreading rumours and I do not know from where these rumours have originated. Someone is trying to create confusion. The fact is, Pereira will be the new sarpanch and Yadav will be the deputy sarpanch for the next five years,” said Godinho.
Asked if the sarpanch’s post during the five-year term would be shared between Yadav and Pereira, Godinho replied in the negative.
“Pereira and Yadav will complete their five-year term as sarpanch and deputy sarpanch respectively,” said Godinho.
When asked to comment on the post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch at Bogmalo panchayat, Godinho said: “For the first two-and-half years, Virginia Rodrigues will be the sarpanch and Claudio D’Cruz will be the deputy. For the second term, Lorena Fernandes will be the sarpanch and Arun Naik will be the deputy.”
