MARGAO
After the transfer of Fatorda Police Station in-charge, PI Nathan Almeida on Saturday, the Goa police has placed under suspension one Assistant Sub-Inspector attached to the Fatorda police station on Sunday in connection with the ongoing investigations into the Gogol Masjid murder incident.
A senior police officer informed that the ASI has been placed under suspension allegedly for not complying with formalities and directions of police higher-ups in connection with the murder.
Police said the ASI, who was the duty officer of Fatorda police station, was told to shift the four accused persons, from Fatorda to Margao as a precautionary measure on the day of the incident.
The ASI, police said, reportedly kept the accused persons at the Fatorda police station lock-up.
Incidentally, a group of person had called on the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Margao, Sidhant Shirodkar, drawing his attention to the threatening messages received by them from one of the accused persons already in police custody.
Inquiry conducted by the district police chief, SP Tikam Singh Verna, reportedly showed that no search was conducted on the person of the arrested accused as a result of which they reportedly had access to their mobile phones.
Meanwhile, the number of arrests effected by the Fatorda police so far has risen to seven. Police did not rule out the possibility of some of the wanted persons surrendering to the Fatorda police in the next two days.
