The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Margao, on Monday extended the sealing of the Sunni Gulistan Masjid premises at the Gogol Housing Board for a period of seven days, i.e., until February 7, unless further orders are issued.
During the period, the SDM has stated that no person shall be permitted to enter or exit the premises except with the prior written permission of the Officer-in-Charge, Fatorda Police Station, or any officer duly authorised by him in this behalf.
In case any mandatory ritual is required to be performed within the premises, prior written permission of the undersigned, or of any officer duly authorised by the undersigned on this behalf, shall be obtained in advance, the SDM ordered.
The order further stated that the situation shall be kept under constant review on the basis of reports from the local police and other relevant inputs, and that such further orders as may be deemed necessary shall be issued in accordance with law.
The SDM had issued an order dated January 30, directing the closure and securing of the premises of the Sunni Gulistan Masjid in view of the prevailing law and order situation following the murder after Friday prayers.
What prompted the SDM to extend the order of sealing was subsequent inputs received from police officials indicating that the circumstances necessitating the preventive measure continue to subsist.
"Upon due consideration of the facts and circumstances, it is considered expedient and necessary, in the interest of public safety and public order, to continue the said preventive measure until further review," the SDM stated.
