Arun Dongale, senior leader of the cooperative sector from Western Maharashtra who was recently elected chairman of Kolhapur Zilla Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh Ltd, said that the cooperative is planning to increase its presence in Goa with its popular brand of ‘Gokul’ milk and milk products.
The man, also known for the white revolution in Kolhapur district, was elected chairman of the milk major cooperative in May succeeding Vishwasrao Patil.
“We have our procuring and chilling unit at Sindhudurg and it is easy for us to increase our supplies to Goa. However, all these years sufficient efforts were not initiated. Special efforts would be taken to increase the Gokul milk and milk products to Goa,” Dongale told The Goan.
Since its inception, Gokul Milk Union having its head office at Gokul-Shirgaon has achieved many landmarks in milk procurement, extension, animal health, breeding, milk processing, product making and marketing.
At present, Gokul has a modern 17 lakh litres/day capacity dairy plant, satellite dairy at Gokul Shirgaon, taluka Shirol and 4 owned chilling centres having total 8 lakh litres/day milk capacity with modern packing unit at Navi Mumbai.
“I extend my gratitude to all the leaders and milk producers of Gokul for electing me as the chairman of Gokul Milk Union, I am making fresh resolutions to achieve the goals of collecting 20 lakh litres of milk from Gokul as chairman and increasing the price for milk producers,” he said further.
He also ascertained that special efforts will be made to increase youth participation in dairy farming and to train the youth to take up milk production as a major occupation rather than a secondary occupation.
“I look forward to deliver the best to all stakeholders of Gokul with the combined efforts of my fellow directors, member societies, milk producers, dealers, distributors and employees,” said Dongale, while extending his greetings to the people of Goa.
