A power inverter is believed to have led to the fire at a cloth shop in Ponda, as firefighters succeeded in extinguishing the fire on Tuesday midnight.
The shop had large stocks of clothes and material which is estimated to be worth Rs 30 lakh and they were all destroyed in the fire.
Some adjacent shops and establishments also sustained some damage in the fire.
Agriculture Minister and Ponda MLA Ravi Naik visited the shop on Wednesday morning to take stock of the situation.
Ponda Fire Station Officer Sushil Morajkar said a power inverter which was in the shop is suspected to have caught fire first and the flames then spread in the shop.
