A security guard of a hotel in Anjuna was arrested on charges of breaking into the room of a Bengaluru-based tourist couple while they were away and committing theft of a gold chain worth Rs 1.20 lakh on Wednesday, police said.
The accused identified as Atul Kumar Bais (23) native of Madhya Pradesh.
A meticulous investigation helped the Anjuna Police to apprehend the accused in the nick of time as he was making plans to flee to his native place.
According to police, a tourist couple from Bengaluru was on vacation to Goa and was staying in a rented service apartment “ ‘Goaround Cozy Homes’ at Anjuna,
The couple complained that some unknown persons entered into their locked room while they were out at the Vagator beach and committed theft of a gold chain and other articles all worth around Rs 1.20 lakh.
Anjuna Police zeroed in on the accused security guard at the hotel and apprehended him while he was on verge of fleeing to his native place.
During interrogation the accused confessed to committing the crime.

The accused has been arrested under sections 454 and 380 of the IPC.
“Due to the hard efforts of the Anjuna Police the thief was identified and apprehended within two hours of registering the case,” said Jivba Dalvi, Mapusa SDPO.
The police team was led by Anjuna PI Prashal Dessai which included PSI Sahil Warang, Dhiraj Devidas and Police Constables Rama Parab, Satyendra Nasnodkar, Laxman Sawaldesai and Rupesh Azgaonkar.
