Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Tuesday lamented that the Shiv-Premi had successfully built the Shiv Smarak with great vigour at Chaudi, but had not shown the same enthusiasm by their presence on the Coronation Day.
He was addressing the 350th Rajyaabhishek-Din (Coronation Day) of Chhatraphati Shivaji Maharaj at the statue of the Maratha Warrior recently installed at Chaudi-Canacona.
“We don’t have that many present here today, though I had expected more and more Shiv-Premi to join this function. This day should be also observed as an auspicious occasion,” said Tawadkar.
Paying rich tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Tawadkar described the kingdom of Shivaji Maharaj as a classic example of communal harmony and development.
Tawadkar garlanded the statue of Shivaji Maharaj in the presence of Canacona Dy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar, Canacona Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar, Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, Zilla Panchayat (Khola) member Shanu Velip, CMC Councillors Hemant Naik Gaonkar, Amita Pagi and Narcisco Fernandes.
BJP Canacona Mandal President Vishal Desai, ex-CMC Chairperson and Shiv Premi’s Ajay Bhagat, as well as the staff of Dy Collector and Mamlatdar offices, were also present.
Canacona Dy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar on Monday said the government had decided to celebrate ‘Coronation Day’ of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and had issued an order seeking the presence of the CMC Chairperson and councillors for the celebration of the event.
