The Directorate of Health Services (DHS) will be launching the Total Diabetic Care Programme on September 20 at the hands of the Danish Ambassador and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
The programme will see the establishment of foot clinics in sub-health centres, primary health centres, community health centres, sub-district hospitals and the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC).
Through the establishment of foot clinics, the DHS aims to provide free insulin to diabetic patients.
“The idea is to provide free insulin to the people of Goa,” informed Health Minister Vishwajit Rane via Twitter on Tuesday.
Under the Total Diabetic Care Programme, a Diabetes Registry will be started so that the Directorate of Health Services has details of patients, with the aid of which they intend to start preventative programmes.
“The Diabetes Registry will help map the population. Through preventative programmes, we hope that borderline diabetic cases can be detected and we are able to provide quality care to the people of Goa,” said Rane.
Speaking at a 5-day free mega Ayurvedic neuro-therapy medical camp organized by Matrubhumi Seva Pratishthan Goa, the Health Minister said that many international tourists travel to India to avail Ayurvedic treatments.
Rane also appreciated the efforts of Ayush Minister Shripad Naik towards setting up of a national institute of Ayurveda and naturopathy at Dhargal along with two Ayurvedic and naturopathy Hospitals, one each in Sakhalim and Margao.
Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Dr. Pramod Sawant who was also present for the function said that health of an individual is as important as wealth to live a healthy, peaceful and prosperous life.
He also informed that the foundation stone for the Ayush centre at Velguem will be laid within the next two to three months which will benefit the people of Bicholim and Sattari taluka.
He further appealed to the people to attend the camp for all 5 days.
