'Government has no role in filing of FIR against ailing former MLA'

PANAJI: The government has no role in the filing of an FIR against ailing poet and former MLA Vishnu Wagh, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said and added that the police were only following SC guidelines because prima facie a case of violation of the law was made out.
"There is a decision of the Apex court which says that if any prima facie offence is made out an FIR cannot be avoided. Based on that police too their own decision. I don't interfere with work of investigation officers. They then take advice from public prosecutors. They took action after taking from them," Parrikar said.
"I had released the book. Personally feel there should be personal freedom ... some people feel that they words are derogatory to women. I'm not an expert on that. An expert will have to give opinion to police first whether the words are derogatory or not," Parrikar said.
"There is nothing serious about it. If we don't register a case, the NGP concerned will go to court. There is nothing that relates to the government here," Parrikar added.
A non-governmental organisation has filed a complaint against a collection of poems written by the former MLA which it has alleged are derogatory to women.
