PANAJI: Goa Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju extended Independence Day greetings to the people of Goa and Indians across the world, paying tribute to the freedom fighters and urging citizens to uphold unity, protect the environment and contribute to building a prosperous, peaceful and inclusive Goa.
In his message, the Governor recalled the sacrifices of Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bhagat Singh and countless other freedom fighters, stressing that citizens must preserve the hard-earned freedom and work towards fulfilling their vision of a strong, united and inclusive India.
He highlighted Goa’s contribution to the nation, its cultural heritage, natural beauty, tourism, entrepreneurship and social fabric, while also remembering the historic struggle for Goa’s liberation and the sacrifices of freedom fighters that led to liberation on December 19, 1961.
On environmental protection, the Governor said Goa’s forests, rivers, beaches, wetlands and biodiversity are its precious natural heritage. He urged citizens to adopt sustainable practices and ensure that development and environmental protection go hand in hand.
Urging young people to embrace knowledge, innovation and technology while remaining rooted in cultural and ethical values, he said the youth are the greatest strength and future of the nation and the state.
The Governor also highlighted Goa’s performance in the NITI Aayog Investment Friendliness Index 2026, where the state secured fourth position, and called for responsible and sustainable investments that create employment and strengthen the local economy.
He also called for greater attention to the welfare and empowerment of women, children, senior citizens and disadvantaged sections, while stressing the importance of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence.
As India celebrates its 80th Independence Day, the Governor urged citizens to discharge their responsibilities, respect the rule of law, protect public property and contribute through acts of honesty, discipline and service towards building a stronger, developed and self-reliant India.
