The Goa government has announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 1 crore for the kith and kin of the two police constables who were killed in a road accident on the Colva-Margao road Saturday night.
The government has further announced that it will provide job of police sub-inspector or post of LDC to the kith and kin of the deceased constables.
Senior police and district officials joined the citizens in paying their homage to the two young constables. The police department also gave a gun salute to the departed constables.
Director General of Police, I D Shukla, South Goa district Collector Ruchika Katyal, Dy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, MLA Clafacio Dias, a host of police officers descended at Balli to pay their homage to the departed souls.
Later speaking to the media, DGP Shukla termed the incident as unfortunate and sad as it has taken away the lives of the two police constables while discharging their duties. He said the entire police department is with the families of the deceased constables.
Shukla pointed out that every policemen, while joining the force, knows the professional hazards they have to face in the police.
Saying that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has communicated to him to announce an ex-gratia relief of Rs 1 crore for the kith and kin of the deceased constables, Shukla said the Goa police offices and staff will also extend financial support and take care of the families.
