The All Goa Poultry Shop Owners Association Thursday urged the government and the Panchayats and Municipalities to help in the safe disposal of the slaughtered poultry waste generated in the state.
Addressing the media, Association president C Sequeira said the Association, which has a membership of around 330 members, has been collecting chicken waste from the members and transporting the same at the plant at Pissurlem for safe disposal.
Sequeira has pegged the total amount of chicken waste generated in the state to a whopping 25-35 tonnes a day.
He, however, said that the state will be rid of the indiscriminate disposal of chicken waste along the road sides if all the chicken vendors dispose their waste in a safe mode.
“There are over 1000 chicken vendors across the state. The waste the Association is collecting is from our members numbering 330. There’s a need to streamline the collection and disposal of chicken waste from all the 1000-odd vendors to ensure that the waste is disposed of in a safe manner”, Sequeira said.
In this respect, he said the Panchayats and Municipalities should extend help and assistance in ensuring the waste is disposed of in a safe mode.
