Akhil Goa Kshatriya Pagui Samaj President Diwakar Pagui and others submit a memorandum to Canacona Dy Collector Prataprao Gaunkar.
CANACONA
The Akhil Goa Kshatriya Pagui Samaj (AGKPS) has sought the immediate removal of molasses from a large damaged tank at the Canacona Industrial Estate before the tank gives way and molasses spills into water bodies and causes an environmental disaster.
A petition submitted to Canacona Dy Collector Prataprao Gaunkar by the AGKPS President Diwakar Pagui and a delegation stated that AGKPS members are fishermen registered with the fisheries department who are engaged in fishing activities around Canacona beach.
The AGKPS stated that the unused and old tank of an alcohol company has dangerously tilted on one side and feared that if the tank were to burst, the liquid would flow into the water bodies and rivers, eventually proceeding into the sea, which could cause huge marine pollution. This would then severely affect the livelihood of the entire fishing community.
The AGKPS has requested authorities to swiftly initiate action to dismantle the huge tank and to dispose off the liquid at any suitable place before the disaster strikes the region in Canacona.
