The State Cabinet on Monday accorded its approval to further amend the Goa Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Act 2013 extending the deadline to fill up group C posts by April 30, 2024. These are the posts that were advertised prior to January 8, 2022, just before the assembly elections.
This is the fourth amendment to the Act. The earlier deadline lapsed on January 31. Before that in October the government had asked the Goa Staff Selection Commission (GSSC) to complete the requirements to group C posts by October 31, 2023.
The government had initially set deadline of August 31, 2023 to complete the recruitment process.
The amendment has substituted the proviso to sub-section (8) of Section 7 of the Act as follows: “Provided that where advertisements for filling up of the subordinate services/posts were issued prior to January 8, 2022, the department concerned may conduct examination and complete the selection process to such subordinate services/posts not later than April 30, 2024.”
Just before the State could go for polls in 2022, several departments had issued advertisements for subordinate posts as the government had started recruitments to fill around 10,000 vacancies during that period. However, with election code coming into force, the recruitment process was halted.
