Apparently waiting to extract his pound of flesh, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday asserted that he will settle for nothing less than 50 per cent of the jobs up for grabs in the South district hospital, even as the government has constituted a three-member Task Force comprising of Vijai Sardesai, Health Minister and Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Managing Director Srinet Kothawale to monitor the long delayed hospital project.
While the TCP Minister has welcomed constituting the Task Force, he sent a clear message to the government that he would not be content in just overseeing the progress of work of the hospital project but was clear that majority jobs in the district hospital should come to the people of Fatorda.
"Before the coalition was formed, I had made it clear to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar that the government will have to accommodate the interests of people of Fatorda, who had sacrificed their land and had suffered immensely in terms of health over the last seven years. I will remind the Chief Minister to honour his promise that most of the jobs generated in the district hospital project will go to the people of Fatorda," Sardesai told The Goan moments after the government constituted a Task Force to oversee the completion of the hospital project, dragging now for the last seven years.
Replying to a question, he said there would be no compromise as far as the jobs are concerned, reminding that he had promised the people of Fatorda that he would fight to get them jobs in the district hospital.
The TCP Minister said he would invite the Health Minister to the hospital project site to review the progress of work and ensure that the hospital is commissioned by August 15, 2018.
The Task Force has been constituted to expedite, monitor and ensure timely construction of the hospital, with a brief to the three members to meet regularly and monitor the progress of work on the hospital project.
The committee is authorised to guide and make suggestions to the GSIDC in matters relating to its construction and also guide the authorities on other issues including its functioning of the hospital so as to make it fully operational in a time bound manner.
Meanwhile, the TCP Minister said that work would commence from Friday on the damaged walking track of the Sports Authority of Goa outside the Nehru stadium. He said though he had taken up the project soon after assuming office, work could not start during the last three months because of the intervening monsoons.
