The petition filed by Verda resorts against the resolution adopted by the Carmona panchayat withholding renewal of trade licence will come up for hearing before the Additional Director of Panchayats on November 1.
While the Carmona panchayat is expected to file its reply to the petition, beleaguered residents of Olvaddo-Carmona are planning to file an intervening application to make them a party to the proceedings before the Additional Panchayat Director.
The Additional Panchayat Director had last week granted stay on the implementation of the Panchayat Resolution withholding renewal of trade licence for Verda resort on grounds that the premises where the resort is in operation was issued occupancy certificate for residential purpose and not for commercial use.
Olvaddo residents had been agitating for quite some time now over the conversion of the residential complex into a resort after a former sarpanch issued the trade licence for the project.
The residents have also questioned whether the Goa Panchayat Raj Act empowers a sarpanch to issue a trade licence when such matters fall in the domain of the panchayat secretary.
