Director of Panchayat's decision to post transferred Panchayat Secretary Sandhya Shirodkar back to Colva panchayat has come under strong opposition from social activists.
A group of activists, Judith Almeida and others on Tuesday demanded the immediate transfer of Sandhya from Goa or threatened to knock the doors of the judiciary if the Panchayat Director takes no immediate steps to transfer the official.
Addressing the media, Judith demanded to know what prompted the Panchayat Director to bring back Sandhya to Colva after just 10 days when the incumbent secretary was doing a fine job all these days.
"When we questioned the Panchayat Director seeking reasons for the return of the secretary Sandhya to Colva, the Director replied saying that she has been sent back as she has not written the minutes of the panchayat meetings held in the past," Judith said, while saying that this
explanation from the panchayat director is totally unacceptable.
The activists posed a question or two for the Panchayat Director. "Instead of transferring the incumbent secretary, why did the Panchayat director not direct Sandhya to go to Colva and complete the minutes during the afternoons," Judith questioned, even as she wondered how a panchayat secretary can recollect what had transpired at the meetings of the panchayats held months earlier.
Judith, who is the Chairman of the Colva Bio-Diversity panel, blamed secretary Sandhya for the delay in the constitution of the bio-diversity panel till date.
"We want to know whether Sandhya is back at the Colva panchayat due to political pressure," the activist demanded to know, while threatening to move the courts if the panchayat does not pay heed to the demand of the people for the immediate transfer of the panchayat secretary.
