The Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (DSD&E) has placed Roque Coelho, Vocational Instructor (Practical) at ITI Farmagudi under suspension with immediate effect, in connection with allegations of extortion, harassment and abuse.
About 50 trainees from the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Farmagudi had boycotted classes on Monday to demand action against Coelho, after alleging that he had extorted money and had harassed them.
In an order, Director of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Aleixo F da Costa stated that he had placed Coelho "under suspension with immediate effect." During his period of suspension, Coelho has been directed to report to the DSD&E headquarters at Patto-Panaji.
On Monday, the aggrieved students had accused Coelho of extorting money from them if they didn't wear uniforms and have identity cards. A photo of money deposited in the container was circulated by these students.
On hearing of the incident, Director of Craftsman Training Aleixo F da Costa
had visited the place on Monday to take stock of the situation.
