The Goa Foundation has once again come under attack by mining dependents over its fresh application seeking a reduction in the interim cap on mining in the state from 20 to 12 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The mining dependents have decided to stage a ‘dharna' on November 2 along the ‘Bombay Road' at Pale, along the outskirt of Usgao.
President of All Goa Machinery Owners Association Sandeep Parab, president of North Goa Truck Owners Association Suresh Desai and president of Goa Truck Owners Association for Goa Mining Vitthal Gawas along with their members on Tuesday addressed a news conference in the city to condemns the actions of Goa Foundation.
It may be recalled that the application filed by Goa Foundation has sought reduction of the interim cap on mining, alleging that it has been fixed without taking into account the adverse impact on citizens and environment of the state.
"We don't understand why Goa Foundation wants to deprive us from this business. We condemn the action of Goa Foundation," Desai said.
Sandip Parab said the dharna has been planned to condemn the actions of Goa Foundation.
"I appeal to the mining dependents to join us in this peaceful dharna," Parab said.
"The Goa Foundation should give us an option to earn our livelihood. How do we live without any work? We have borrowed loans and how are we to repay these loans if there is no business,"
asked Parab.
