Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday rubbished claims that Dabolim Airport would slowly close down as fake propaganda and maintained that the airport had a great future.
Godinho was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the 33KV underground cabling project at Dabolim Airport on the occasion of his birthday in the presence of Airport Director Dhanamjaya Rao, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, Sancoale ZP Anita Thorat, Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav and others.
“This is a fake propaganda. There is no question of Dabolim Airport closing down because there are many projects being taken up at the airport presently to increase air traffic and enhance facilities for passengers,” said Godinho.
“We have just inaugurated an underground cabling work which was taken up by Airports Authority of India in association with Goa Electricity Department (GED) to cater to the additional Power requirement of 1500 KVA (in addition to the existing 3000 KVA) of the Terminal Building expansion Project at the airport.”
“Besides, a new 33 KV underground HT Cable has been laid from 33/11 KV Sancoale Sub-station to Goa Airport Dabolim by Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technique at a cost of Rs 2.46 crore,” said Godinho.
The minister said Goa Airport is continuously undertaking a lot of development works.
