The fish van has now shifted from Ponda town to Bandora Panchayat jurisdiction, about 400 metres away from old bus stand in Ponda, exactly on the border of the town.
It may be recalled that fish vendors from Ponda last week drove away the fish van stationed near Almeida School, claiming they were losing business due to its presence. They had threatened the occupants of the van to leave
the town.
The next day, the mobile fish van was stationed again near Almeida School. Again, fish vendors threatened the occupants, but this time the van didn’t budge. The occupants of the van were then allegedly threatened by some persons posing as authorities after which they left the spot.
“We saw two persons, posing as authorities, warning the mobile fish van to leave the town. I don’t understand why they are harassing the van, where we find fish at reasonable rate? In the market fish is being sold at exorbitant rates and that too of not too good quality. The van ensures quality and it is affordable,” Amit Naik, a resident, told The Goan.
The occupants of the van alleged the fish vendors were following them everywhere. “Now, we have changed the spot from Almeida School to the RTO office, which is in a panchayat area. Now, even the municipal council can’t question us,” they said.
Sources informed that fish vendors from Ponda have allegedly pressurized some politicians in Ponda and the mobile fish van is not getting support from the government authorities.
On Sunday morning, many people were seen buying fish from the van.
